People go through lengths to keep themselves and their family protected from potential harm. But how do you really guarantee that nothing bad is going to happen? In truth, we can’t but hope is not lost because there is something we can do. Some people have put on computerized alarm systems around their house. It warns them if an intruder is lurking inside. But for some, the more traditional method is still preferred. They depend on union locks to protect them rather than computerized systems which may be overwritten by technical experts gone bad. Traditional locks complement and enhance the protection offered by iron clad windows and thick wooden doors. There are locks that are also digitally operated. There are locks available not just for your homes but for your bikes and mailboxes, or just anything that you used to secure your things. No need to spend thousands of dollars because these are affordable security that lets you sleep well at night knowing you and your family is safe.

Well there are numerous reasons, but I’ll tell you one which comes from the US. It’s actually about a room, in some senses quite an unremarkable room in a building in San Francisco. The room is numbered 614A and the office is owned by AT&T a Telecoms company you might have heard of.

So what happened in this room – well actually a huge amount of the worlds Internet traffic passed through here. This room was a window into part of the backbone of the Internet, it was a major switching centre which carried a lot of the nets traffic. But in truth the traffic shouldn’t have come through this room, it did because engineers working for the NSA had secretly (and illegally) split the Internet feed and had a copy routed through this room.

It’s called covert surveillance I guess, but they were spying on you, me and anyone else whose traffic went through this site. The only reason we even know about this was a brave Telecoms engineer called Mark Klein, the NSA and US Government had no plans to let us know. So this in part is one of the reasons I use anonymous surfing techniques, I know I’ll upset the NSA but frankly until they start behaving within the law I really don’t care.
