So many things go into a career choice. It’s really a matter of commitment. A career typically takes a commitment of about 15 to 20 years. That’s a career. You are not necessarily tied to one company that whole time, but in order to qualify and to be identified and defined as a “career” you’d have to be doing the same sort of thing, developing and honing a specialty in a specific field and industry for about that length of time. Anything shorter is just sort of fleeting, in terms of careers and time lines. You might be considering a career that currently doesn’t have very good prospects. But you’ve got to look further on down the road. You’ve got to look 5 to 10 years down the line, and think, put in your best guess about what you feel will be the fate of this sector or industry that you’re considering.
